An estimate from 2026 federal and state withholding tables. Your employer's payroll settings and benefits can change it. How we calculate this

Paycheck taxes in Georgia

Georgia uses a single flat rate for state income tax. The rate changed partway through the year; this estimate uses the rate in effect at year end.

State income tax

Georgia withholds state income tax. For a single filer paid every two weeks, it comes to about:

  • 2.9% of pay on a $35,000 salary
  • 3.7% of pay on a $60,000 salary
  • 4.2% of pay on a $100,000 salary

State payroll programs

No state payroll programs come out of employee pay.

Local taxes

Local income taxes aren't included in this estimate.

Worked example

$18.00 an hour, 32 hours a week, paid every two weeks, single filer: take-home is about $980.79 per paycheck.

How we calculate this

  • Federal income tax uses the IRS 2026 withholding method for the current Form W-4, with your filing status and children under 17.
  • Social Security and Medicare use this year's rates and wage base.
  • State income tax uses each state's own employer withholding formula, plus state payroll programs such as paid leave or disability insurance.
  • For hourly pay, hours over 40 in a week count as overtime at time and a half. Tips and commission are treated as paid through payroll.

Questions

How accurate is this paycheck calculator?

It uses the 2026 federal withholding tables, Social Security and Medicare, and each state's own employer withholding formula. Your real check can differ if your employer withholds differently, you have other benefits or deductions, or your hours change. Treat it as an estimate, not tax advice.

How are tips taxed on my paycheck?

Tips count as wages for Social Security, Medicare and income tax withholding. This calculator treats them as paid through payroll, so they're taxed and included in your take-home. The new federal deduction for qualified tips is claimed on your tax return (you can also account for it on your Form W-4), so it isn't subtracted in this estimate.

How does it handle overtime?

For hourly pay, hours over 40 in a workweek are paid at time and a half. Some states, like California, also pay overtime after a set number of hours in a day; Miyo's calendar calculator applies those daily rules shift by shift. The new federal deduction for the overtime premium is claimed on your tax return (you can also account for it on your Form W-4), so it isn't subtracted in this estimate.

Are city or county taxes included?

Not in most places, because they depend on your home address. Maryland is the exception: its county tax is part of the state formula, so it's included at a typical county rate. If your state has local wage taxes, the state section on its page says so.
